He was born in Damascus in 1256. He is a scholar of Islamic cosmography and geography. He was very intelligent and was interested in many branches of science.

The works he prepared have a wide range of content from geology and mineralogy to natural and historical events, culture and art. Especially because of his work called 1.Nuhbetü'd-dehr fi acâ 'ibi'l-ber ve'l-bahr, Damascus was described as a scholar with extraordinary intuition and thinking ability by the historians of science in Europe.

The devices he developed on various subjects, especially the rose water production device, made important studies in the field of chemistry and pioneered the science of chemistry-pharmaceuticals.
