Hz. Omer Tomb - Cultural Properties

Hz. Omer Tomb

Hz. Tomb of Omer

Location: Approximately 4 km from Kyrenia. It is located on the coastline of Çatalköy in the east.

Opening: During the Ottoman administration, a tomb, a masjid containing the tomb, and rooms for the imam, tombkeeper and visitors were built around the place where Serdar (Commander) Ömer and his companions, who were in the vanguard of the conquest of Cyprus, were martyred.

Current Functionality: It is open as a place of worship. Since the lodge and the cave under the lodge by the sea are considered sacred, this tomb and masjid are also visited for prayer and worship purposes.

Definition of Lodge: It is the place where members of the sect live, worship and hold ceremonies.

Exterior-Interior Spaces: There are seven graves and mausoleums on the right of the entrance of the mosque. There is a rectangular room in the southeast corner of the entrance hall of the masjid, and on the upper floor there are two separate rooms for the imam, tombkeeper and visitors.
