Ahmed Al-Mizzi, who is thought to have been born in Egypt in 1256, is known as an astronomer and timekeeper.

His work in mathematics and astronomy, and his skill in making astrolabe and rubu' board, brought Al-Mizzi to serious fame.

He was also a master at making bows. Tools made by him, which had great artistic value beyond their practical functions, were sold well above market prices.
