Great Khan
Located in Nicosia Selimiye District, the two-storey Büyük Han, reflecting the general characteristics of Ottoman inn architecture, has historically been the largest inn in Cyprus.
The building, which was built in the 1570s, is supported by the pointed arched porticoes surrounding the courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard, there is a pavilion masjid.
While Ottoman inns typically have a single entrance door, the Büyük Han has two entrances.
In the past, apart from its original purpose, the Büyük Han, which was used as a prison and renting rooms for low-income families in certain periods, today serves as a cultural center where various shops, workshops, different arts are performed, concerts and exhibitions are held. Among the shops and ateliers, traditional Cypriot handicrafts make up the largest proportion and most of the tenants are women who produce.
Other venues in the inn include a coffee shop and restaurant.
