News · 22 January 2022

The great science and astronomy scholar, who lived between 1304 and 1375, was born in Damascus.

Ibn Shatir, who went to different places to learn science, became a master in the sciences of geometry and calculus in time. Then he dealt with the science of astronomy and was recognized as the greatest scholar of the time in this field and discovered many observation and calculation tools. He wrote books about the making and use of these tools. He developed the astronomical instrument called the astrolabe. He stood on the sundials.

Many Muslim and western scholars benefited from his works and were under his influence. Chief among them is Copernicus.

At the end of the comparative comparison of Ibn-i Shatir's and Copernicus' models, it has been understood how much Copernicus was influenced by the community of Nasiruddin Tusi, Ibn-i Shatir and Meraga scholars.

The famous Italian scholar Galileo, who came a while after Copernicus, also built the first telescope by being educated in the light of Ibn Shatir's knowledge. Thus, he studied the celestial bodies, planets and stars by means of this instrument and proved everything Ibn Shatir had revealed one by one.
