Stork Hospital (Gurabahhane-i Laklakan)
Our ancestors, whose hearts are full of love and compassion, have come to the service of sick birds, hungry wolves and injured horses, as well as seeing and taking care of people's needs.
They placed bird houses called “Bird Pavilion” or “Bird Palace” on the inaccessible heights of the sun-drenched and windproof facades of all kinds of buildings such as mosques, madrasahs, schools, palaces.
For example; Stork Hospital, called “Gurabâhâne-i Lâklâkan” in Bursa, is a unique institution in the history of the earth. Storks, pigeons, sparrows, swallows could make their nests on any Turkish house they wanted, without ever being in danger of being expelled. The architecture of the old houses was also suitable for this beautiful service. Especially in Istanbul, there are still birdhouses, although their numbers are decreasing.
We can see them as we pass by a historical building. The foundation established by Mürselli İbrahim Ağa in İzmir Ödemiş is also important in terms of showing the kindness and love of our ancestors. For our storks, which are the subject of our folk songs, lullabies, tales, proverbs and many other places, the foundation established by Mürselli İbrahim Ağa in İzmir Ödemiş requested that an annual amount of 100 kurus be allocated for the feeding of the storks.
