Turkish Cypriots Have Been Struggling For Awqaf Properties For 100 Years
One of the newspapers of the period, Halkın Sesi included the following lines in one of the articles written by Ahmed C. Gazioğlu on April 18, 1956:
“The Cyprus Foundation Office, which took over the administration of the donated properties, has been in foreign hands since 1878, when the Turks left the island. As a result of this, the administration of the Foundation's properties has been put in ways that are not suitable for its purpose; Many of our foundation properties were ruined due to the indifference of the chiefs, passed to foreigners, sold at cheap prices, and remained neglected. For this reason, the Turks on the island could not benefit from the Evkaf property, which is a great wealth, for years”.
