Why did the British Administration and the Republic of Cyprus pay rent for years if the closed Maraş is not a foundation property?
Benter: Why did the British Administration and the Republic of Cyprus pay rent for years if Maraş is not a foundation property?
Making statements about Covered Maraş in a television program he participated in, Cyprus Foundations Administration General Manager Prof. Dr. İbrahim Benter touched upon the past practices of the British Administration.
He stated that the British passed the immovable property law in 1944, and within the scope of this law, he paid 2230 £ per year to Evkaf between 1944 and 1959 for his total assets, including the Closed Maraş Lands, and even contributed to various schools with the income obtained from these rents.
Stating that the Republic of Cyprus continues the same rental practice, Benter said, if Covered Maraş is not a foundation property, then why did the British Administration and the Republic of Cyprus pay rent for years? He ended his speech with a question.
