As part of the presentation of the Turkic Academy’s reports, the delegation visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus had the opportunity to explore the historical and cultural heritage of Nicosia and Famagusta during a cultural programme held on 13 October 2026.

The Nicosia leg of the programme included visits to Selimiye Mosque, Büyük Han, and Arabahmet Mosque. Following these visits, which offered insight into Cyprus’s rich history and cultural heritage, the delegation visited the Muratağa-Sandallar Martyrs’ Cemetery and Museum. After watching a documentary recounting the tragedies that took place at the site, prayers were offered in memory of the victims. The visit was an emotional experience for participants, serving as a reminder of the painful events that have left a profound mark on the collective memory of the Turkish Cypriot people and of the importance of preserving and passing this history on to future generations.

As part of the cultural programme, the delegation also visited the Department of Economics at Eastern Mediterranean University. During a luncheon hosted by Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and his team, delegation members had the opportunity to meet and exchange views on strengthening inter-institutional communication and developing potential future partnerships.

In the Famagusta leg of the programme, the delegation visited Varosha, where officials provided information about the area’s historical background and current situation. The visit also included Bilal Ağa Mosque. Following a break at Evkaf Cafe, the delegation visited Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, where restoration works are ongoing, gaining first-hand insight into Cyprus’s waqf heritage.

The day’s programme concluded with a dinner at Güven Military Officers’ Club.

As the Cyprus Evkaf Administration, we value such gatherings that promote our historical and cultural heritage, preserve our shared collective memory, and strengthen ties with the Turkic world. Drawing strength from our shared history, we will continue to foster our cultural connections and preserve the values that we will pass on to future generations.
